The location of the commemoration is the battlefield, where the Donghak Peasant Army formed around Jeon Bong-jun, Kim Gae-nam and Son Hwa Jung, those who had their goals in anti-corruption, anti-feudalism and anti-foreign power, had triumphed over government forces dispatched from Jeonju Provincial Office in 1894. It is a shrine that had played a decisive role in the advancement of the riot into the Donghak Peasant Revolution. The spot was made in a space to cherish and commemorate the deceased and their contributions. Donghak Peasant Revolution Commemoration is standing on a building site of approximately 331,000 m², and the total floor space of the building is approximately 566 m². The commemoration space consists of exhibition halls, education halls, Hwangtohyeon Battlefield, parking lots, outdoor education halls and a square, and many Korean citizens come visit the space in pursuit of emulating the grand spirit behind the Donhak Peasant Revolution.
