Martyr Baek Jeong-gi was born in 1896 in Dongjin-myeon Hajang-ri, Buan-gun. He moved to Youngwon-myeon Eunsun-ri in 1907. He is one of the three patriotic martyrs of Korea, who started independence movement in 1920 in Gyeongseong. The Order of Merit for National Foundation, Independence Medal was posthumously awarded to Martyr Baek Jeong-gi in 1963. The monument for Martyr Gupa Baek Jeong-gi was originally established in October 30 1953, and was moved to the current location in the garden of the commemoration in 2004. Then, another monument larger than the first monument was established in June 5, 2004.
Martyr Baek Jeong-gi passes away at the age of 39 in a Japanese prison for long-term prisoners in 1934. The Uiyeolsa Shrine dedication ceremony together with the enshrinement of the Martyr's portrait was held in June 5, 2004.
